Bandung Yang Dingin

Tangkuban Perahu

The name translates roughly to "upturning of (a) boat" or "upturned boat" in Sundanese, referring to the local legend of its creation. The story tells of "Dayang Sumbi", a beauty who lived in West Java. She cast away her son "Sangkuriang" for disobedience, and in her sadness was granted the power of eternal youth by the gods. After many years in exile, Sangkuriang decided to return to his home, long after the two had forgotten and failed to recognize each other. Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and planned to marry her, only for Dayang Sumbi to recognize his birthmark just as he was about to go hunting. In order to prevent the marriage from taking place, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to (1) build a dam on the river Citarum and (2) build a large boat to cross the river, both before the sunrise. Sangkuriang meditated and summoned mythical ogre-like creatures - buta hejo or green giant(s)- to do his bidding. Dayang Sumbi saw that the tasks were almost completed and called on her workers to spread red silk cloths east of the city, to give the impression of impending sunrise. Sangkuriang was fooled, and upon believing that he had failed, kicked the dam and the unfinished boat, resulting in severe flooding and the creation of Tangkuban perahu from the hull of the boat.

Pulau Langkawi

Map of Langkawi

Off the coast of Kedah is a cluster of 99 islands with the best of many worlds; beautiful beaches, world-class infrastructure, mangroves rich in flora and fauna, ultra-cheap duty-free shopping and fascinating legends. Langkawi has a lingering legend woven into its history. Ask anyone in Langkawi about the tragic legend of a beautiful young lady named Mahsuri, and you'll hear a tale of love, jealousy and a curse that was placed upon the island by the her for seven generations. Today, the seventh generation of Langkawi’s inhabitants has long come and gone, but people here still believe that the prosperity and blessings the islands enjoy today and the passing of the curse is not a pure coincidence. The mysticism of this legend can be felt in many parts of this island, especially at Makam Mahsuri (Mahsuri’s Mausoleum) where the famous legendary figure is said to be buried.Langkawi is not only geared towards tourism. Many of the islanders are farmers, fishermen and entrepreneurs. Experience the beautiful countryside and the peaceful landscape of paddy fields by renting a car and taking a leisurely drive around the island. Some of Langkawi’s most rustic and memorable views are along the road that circles the island. You'll pass small villages with wooden houses framed by palm trees, and children pedalling their old bicycles on errands. Aside from experiencing the local lifestyle, there is no shortage of things to do in Langkawi.Head up the thrilling new cable car to the summit of Mount Mat Cincang - Langkawi's second highest mountain - for an unrivalled view of the entire main island and beyond. You can also visit the Field of Burnt Rice, the Hot Springs, Telaga Tujuh (The Seven Wells) and the Beach of Black Sand. Boat tours are organised to Tasik Dayang Bunting, (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), Gua Cerita (Cave of Stories) and the Gua Langsir (Curtain Cave). And if you're more outdoorsy, why not go trekking through the pristine rainforest that blankets most of Langkawi, or go on a boat tour of the mangroves, go diving, or play a round of golf at some of the 5-star resorts. Langkawi also has an underwater world, containing an underground tunnel that runs though a giant aquarium, that has gotten rave reviews.

Ok itu serba sedikit tentang Pulau Langkawi so tak payah la aku susah payah menerangkannya. Aku bertolak pukul 3.30 pagi sabtu sampai pukul 11.00 pagi ke Kuala Perllis aku pergi selama 2 malam 3 hari.

Malaysian Election 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: It will be the longest official campaign period in 26 years. Nomination day will be on Feb 24 and polling day on March 8. Parties from both the Barisan Nasional and the opposition were generally taken by surprise at the length of time because the last one in 2004 was just nine days. Although none will publicly admit it, most are apparently ill-prepared for such a long campaign period. Although campaigning can officially start after nomination day, the effective campaign period will be 23 days because most parties started their programmes yesterday, if not earlier. Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the period would give all political parties ample opportunity to campaign effectively. DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang thanked the Election Commission for the longer period. In the contentious 1969 elections, the campaign period stretched over 34 days, while in 1974 it was 16. Eight years later (in 1982) campaigning was reduced to 15 days, and in subsequent polls shrank further, to 10 days. In the tumultuous 1999 elections, only nine days were given. Other highlights of yesterday’s run-up to the general election: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the Barisan’s seat-sharing formula remains unchanged. The opposition parties unveil how they distributed seats among themselves. Two ministers confirm they are retiring. Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon says he will reveal next week the seat he will contest.
